Elegy was written in Aspen, Colorado during the summer of 1981, and is dedicated to the memory of the composer’s second wife, Shirley Walker Jarrett, who had died a year earlier in an automobile accident. The work has received a number of performances in the past thirty years, including a recording by the strings of the London Symphony Orchestra.
