Certain classical tunes are recognizable to just about everyone. We hear them while we are shopping or watching TV or even in the elevator. Students may not always know the titles or the composers but they definitely recognize the melodies from classic works like Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony (Ode to Joy), Handel’s Messiah, and Mozart’s Eine kleine nachtmusik. In this fun arrangement these classical favorites are cleverly “fiddled with” by interspersing them among familiar folk tunes with similar melodic features such as Boil Them Cabbage, L’il Liza Jane, and a hint of Dixie.
