Foreword to the original edition: Lionel Hampton is one of the members of that famous group of four musicians known as the Benny Goodman Quartette, whose success on the air and on the records has been nothing short of sensational. This ensemble, comprising Benny Goodman (clarinet), Teddy Wilson (piano), Gene Krupa (drums), and Lionel Hampton (vibraphone), is the foremost of the modern rhythm and its distinguished contributions to the development of swing music is largely responsible for its present vogue. We are proud to be the first to present Lionel Hampton's own vibraphone arrangements of the songs in this folio, which are made doubly attractive by Teddy Wilson's piano accompaniments. The numbers have been selected with care, edited in the modern idiom and given the same musical treatment they received on the air and on the records.
