Directed By Emile Ardolino and released in 1992, Sister Act, starring Whoopi Goldberg, is among one of the funniest, most memorable, and most successful comedies of the 90’s. Goldberg portrays a lounge singer who becomes the target of a hit by the mob after witnessing a murder. She agrees to testify and enters the witness protection program under the guise of a nun at St Katherine’s Roman Catholic Church. The church is located in a shady area of town, and few people attend mass, but when “Sister Mary Clarence” (Whoopi) is eventually elected to take over the choir and opens mass with the debut of a re-interpretation of “Hail Holy Queen,” people come in from the streets and begin to attend mass regularly to hear the new styles of the choir. They end up cleaning up the neighborhood and doing a lot of good for the community. At one point, the mob is tipped off to her location, and kidnap her from the convent. But the nuns chase after her attempting to rescue and save her, risking their lives to do so. Sister Act has some fantastic music - download and print the sheet music right here! |
